How affiliate links work on ShopTech Tools, which programs we participate in, what they cost you (nothing), and how they affect our recommendations (they do not).

Some links on this website are affiliate links. If you purchase a product through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
What that means in practice
- You pay nothing extra. An affiliate link does not change the price you pay. The commission comes out of the vendor's marketing budget.
- Not every link is an affiliate link. We link to vendor documentation, pricing pages and independent sources throughout the site with no commercial relationship attached.
- Affiliate links are marked for search engines. They carry
rel="nofollow sponsored", which is what Google requires for links that may earn a commission. - We do not cloak links. You can see where a link goes before you click it, and affiliate links open in a new tab with a screen-reader announcement noting the relationship.
How it affects what we recommend
It does not change the recommendation, and we have structured the site so that claim is checkable rather than merely asserted:
- Products without any affiliate program appear throughout this site, including as top recommendations in guides and as high-scoring entries in categories.
- Ratings are set from the assessment described in our editorial policy, and commission rates are not an input to them.
- We publish the trade-offs and the “who should avoid this” sections for products we earn from, on the same terms as everything else.

The vendors below are ones we may earn a commission from, or intend to. This list is maintained alongside the site's affiliate configuration, so it stays accurate as programs are added.

We also cover a large number of products with no affiliate relationship at all. If you want to support the site without buying anything, sharing a guide with someone facing the same decision helps just as much.
Advertising and sponsorship
We do not currently run display advertising or sponsored posts. If that changes, sponsored content will be labelled as such on the page itself, not only in this policy.
